Minecraft Dungeons II has six capes. Two of them matter to people who play Minecraft itself, because the Hero Cape and the Twisted cape are also granted in Minecraft Java and Bedrock Edition. The Hero Cape costs nothing extra if you already have access to the first game, but it has a deadline.
All six capes
| Cape | How to get it | Also in Minecraft |
|---|---|---|
| Hero Cape | Play Minecraft Dungeons, then Dungeons II, on one Microsoft account | Yes |
| Twisted cape | Pre-order bonus, offer closed | Yes |
| Soul cape | Buy the Deluxe Edition | No |
| Corrupted Creeper Cape | Codes given out at gamescom, Tokyo Game Show, stream watch quests and a survey | No |
| Special cape | Granted directly by Mojang | No |
| Mojang Studios cape | Working at Mojang Studios | No |
The Hero Cape and its December 31 deadline
The requirement is to play the first Minecraft Dungeons and then Minecraft Dungeons II while signed in to the same Microsoft account. The Minecraft Wiki describes it as logging into Dungeons and then into Dungeons II by December 31, 2026.
What the official footnote does confirm:
- Both games are required and are sold separately
- Playing on Game Pass qualifies, and both titles are on Game Pass, so subscribers need no extra purchase
- The same Microsoft account and an internet connection are required
- Delivery can take time
Owning the Hero Cape in the first game is not a prerequisite. Launching it is enough. You claim the cape from an in-game screen once you qualify, and it appears in Dungeons II and in Minecraft Java and Bedrock.
Twisted cape: that window has closed
This was the pre-order bonus, alongside the Twisted Chicken pet and two hero skins. The offer ran until 12pm PDT on September 28, 2026. It is also slated for Minecraft itself, but buying the game now does not include it.
Soul cape: Deluxe Edition only
The Deluxe Edition costs $49.99 against $29.99 for the Standard, and bundles the Soul cape, the Blub pet, four hero skins and DLC 1 and 2 as they release. The cape alone does not justify the difference. The DLC does, if you intend to buy it.
Corrupted Creeper Cape: event codes
This one came from redeemable codes handed out at gamescom 2026 and Tokyo Game Show, through Twitch and TikTok watch quests, and via a survey. The Minecraft Wiki notes that a million codes were prepared around the Tokyo Game Show campaign. If you hold a code, redeem it before it expires.
How capes appear in Minecraft
Both Java and Bedrock let you pick a cape in the skin settings: through your profile on minecraft.net for Java, and the character creator on Bedrock. Capes are cosmetic and change nothing about gameplay.
Minecraft has relatively few permanent ways to earn a cape, since most arrive through events and collaborations. The two from Dungeons II are among the more straightforward ones currently available.
FAQ
- Q. I do not own the first game. Can I still get the Hero Cape?
- A. Yes. Get access to Minecraft Dungeons, play it, then play Dungeons II. Both are on Game Pass, so a subscription covers it without buying either.
- Q. If I cancel Game Pass, do I lose the cape?
- A. Capes granted in Minecraft are tied to your Microsoft account, separately from how you accessed the games.
- Q. I qualified but nothing shows up in Minecraft.
- A. The official footnote says processing can take time. Wait a few days, then confirm you are signed in with the same Microsoft account.
- Q. Do capes survive switching platforms?
- A. They follow the Microsoft account. Purchases such as the Deluxe Edition stay on the platform where you bought them.
- Q. Can I still get the Corrupted Creeper Cape?
- A. It was distributed as event codes. Watch official announcements for any further giveaway.
