Minecraft Dungeons II moves your hero by clicking with the mouse. There is no WASD movement on PC. As of September 30, 2026, one day after launch, this is the single most repeated complaint in Steam user reviews. No in-game setting switches movement to WASD, so the practical answer today is a gamepad.

What click to move does in a crowd

Movement and attacking share the left mouse button. Click the ground and your hero walks there. Click an enemy and your hero closes in and attacks.

The problem appears when you are surrounded. If you click in the direction you want to flee and an enemy stands that way, the click snaps to the enemy and you attack instead of running. Reviews in both English and Japanese describe the same thing: in dense fights, movement and attack blur together.

The first Minecraft Dungeons used the same scheme. The complaint now is that the sequel did not change it.

Option 1: use a gamepad

A controller is the reliable answer today. The Steam store page lists partial controller support.

Movement goes to the stick, and attacking and dodging sit on separate buttons, so the “I meant to run” problem disappears. Xbox controllers work without extra setup, wired or wireless. For other pads on the Steam version, Steam’s controller settings can present them as Xbox compatible.

Option 2: turn a keyboard into a virtual controller

If you want to keep your hands on the keyboard, tools that present key presses as gamepad input exist. XOutput is free, reWASD is paid.

These do not modify the game. They work at the operating system level, showing your keyboard to the game as a controller. We have not verified either tool with Minecraft Dungeons II, so treat this as something you try at your own risk.

Option 3: mods, which do not exist yet for this game

A GitHub project called WASDungeons comes up in searches. It was published in 2020 for the first Minecraft Dungeons, written in Java, and last updated in July 2020. It does not apply to Minecraft Dungeons II.

Minecraft Dungeons II runs on Unreal Engine 5. UE4SS is the usual framework for adding scripts to an Unreal Engine game, but one day after launch there is no finished WASD mod for this title.

This is an online game. Whether input spoofing tools or mods are acceptable under the rules is Mojang’s call, so if you play online, a gamepad is the safer choice.

Option 4: ask for it officially

Requests for WASD support go to the official Minecraft feedback site, which has a Minecraft Dungeons II category. It works by votes, so finding an existing post and voting carries further than a new one.

As of September 30, 2026, Mojang has not published a response about WASD support.

FAQ

Q. Can I rebind movement to WASD in the settings?
A. Not as of September 30, 2026. Key assignments can be changed, but the movement scheme itself stays click to move.
Q. Did the first game have WASD?
A. No. Minecraft Dungeons used the same click to move scheme, and WASD requests were posted on the official feedback site back then too.
Q. Does this affect Switch and PS5?
A. No. Console versions are played on a controller, so movement is on the stick.
Q. Can I finish the game with mouse only?
A. Yes. Plenty of reviewers are doing exactly that. Switch to a pad if crowded fights frustrate you.
Q. Any trick if I have no controller?
A. Click clearly empty ground away from enemies when you want to disengage. Clicking near an enemy turns the move into an attack.
